“I proposed to Oumou the recording of this album, which is a kind of 3rd part of Mogoya, following the concert given in London on the occasion of the 15 years of No Format where for the first time, almost without rehearsals, she accepted this very “let go” acoustic formula.
I really liked the space thus created for her voice, « says Laurent Bizot. The disc was made in two days at the Midi Live studio of Villetaneuse in the conditions of the live, or rather those of a vigil, without the comfort that usually offers such a technological environment, without amplification, without re-recording, without headphones listening, each musician putting in tune with the whole while giving him a personal touch, his nuance. This equal treatment gives rise to an overall dynamic and a warmth that have become rare commodities in contemporary music.
. Around the incandescent voice of Oumou, the singers Emma Lamadji and Kandy Guira, the guitarist Guimba Kouyaté and the faithful Brahima « Benogo » Diakité, cousin son, virtuoso of the kamele ngoni, came together in his same room. , the singer’s first cassette in 1989. To this brief crew came to join the toy organ and the celesta, Vincent Taurelle member of the Parisian collective ALBERT who expected the success of Mogoya and who in this strictly African context adds a note almost … exotic.
The 9 songs of Mogoya thus revisited offer Oumou the opportunity to evoke without detours, almost in a naked voice, this bitter counterpart to his exceptional success that are jealousies, resentments and betrayals, all that this too free, transgressive and wealthy woman for a deeply conservative African society has endured for so many years.
Because it is the beating, the rebellious, the rebellious that we find here in this instant disc which, at a time when music has become hostage to endless digital manipulations, provides further proof of his courage and his generosity.
